Competitions, one of the main activities of the MWCC, are held on the third Thursday of the month (except in December). Competition is a good tool for improving one's photographic skills. Entry is limited to active club members. Judging is performed by knowledgeable individuals, usually from outside the club. Competitions are held for slides, color prints and black & white prints in three classes - Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.
- Rules
- MWCC adheres to the anonymous judging standards used by the majority of the clubs in the northern Virginia area. Members are asked to refrain from discussion during competition (including "ooh's and ah's" if possible). Judges are asked to provide verbal constructive criticism on technique and composition during the competition using the works in competition that night.
- Schedule
- MWCC schedules competitions for the third Thursday of each month (except in December as it falls near Christmas).
- Scoreboard
- Works are awarded points based on how their photos placed in competition. The scoreboard is the listing of the current monthly point totals and nightly winners.
- Themes
- Themes are used to challenge our members to diversify and strengthen their photographic skills. Competition works must to adhere to that night's 'theme' in order to qualify for competition.
