10/05/2007 - André Gallant Seminar

If you've not seen André's work, prepare to have your heartstrings tugged!

This photographic genius from Saint John, New Brunswick is the heir to the Freeman Patterson workshops, and his creative abilities and instructional style are a tribute to the legacy. André will join us on November 3 for a day of instruction and demonstration. The festivities are open to the public and would be of interest to photographers, artists in general, and all who appreciate art. Click HERE to see the flyer and ticket information.

7/02/07 - Photos from the June 2007 MWCC Banquet

All who were there had a great time. All who were not can see some of the festivities in this short gallery of photos, thanks to Andy Jezioro.

10/07/2006 - Teach Photography Basics to Seniors

Our club project this year is to present photographs of Prince William County to the Manassas Senior Center.  In working with them on this club project they would like to have someone from our club give a presentation on basic digital photography.  There are members of the senior center that would like to purchase a digital camera to take pictures of their families around the holidays but are not sure what to buy or how to use a digital camera.  We are looking for someone to teach the basics.

Please let Greg Daily know if you are interested and he will put you in touch with the director of the senior center.

10/07/2006 - MWCC Freedom Museum Exhibit Opportunity

The Freedom Museum (the Museum), currently located at the Terminal Building of the Manassas Regional Airport, has offered, and the Manassas-Warrenton Camera Club (the MWCC) has accepted, the opportunity to exhibit photographic images that are relevant to the Museum’s theme at the Museum.

The Museum considers the relevant images to be those of military personnel, activities, and equipment of the 20th Century, all types of aircraft, monuments to military activities (e.g., WW II, Korean, Vietnam, and Iwo Jima Memorials, etc.) and other images that are patriotic in nature. The Museum reserves the right to determine the relevance of, and reject, any image presented for display.

Gordon Tassi will accept any images for exhibit at the last meeting in October so a new exhibit can be posted before the Memorial Day Weekend. Gordon will make the display information for each image with the Image title and the makers name and contact information in case someone wants to purchase a copy of the image. There are more details about the exhibit and its criteria on our web site and in the Sept newsletter.

10/05/2006 - Matting Effort for the Freedom Museum

The Manassas-Warrenton Camera Club is supporting the Freedome Museum in it remodeling of its space and the replacing the currrent images on display. The Museum will use images from the Natioanl Archives, the Library of Congress, and a newly available private collection of WW II images. Additionally, the museum wants to have as many images as possible ready on display by Sept. 30 in time for the anniversary of the Smithsonian Museum. (The Freedom Museum is a Smithsonian Associate.) The museum provides the MWCC with space to mount a rotating photograpyhy exhibit of images of aircraft, military activities, and those with a partiotic theme, like the WW II monument.

Maurice Gulledge had volunteered to mat the images and has received the archival mat board and the archival sheets of mating material. However, his job requires extra time until the end of the fiscal year and those demands will eliminate the time he has available to do the matting.

If anyone who has matting experience and the hot press needed to mat the images, the Museum would appreciate it if they could volunteer their services. If you are available to do this taask, please contact Gordon Tassi at gtassi22193@comcast.net. The more people who volunteer will allow the club to do the work faster.

07/12/2006 Joe Harper Memorial Lending Library
Starting at next September’s meeting, MWCC members in good standing will be able to check out books on a wide variety of photographic topics from our new lending library. Thanks to the generosity of members we have been able to create this lending library and offer our members an additional club benefit. In memory of Joe Harper and in recognition of the contributions he made to education of members over many years, the Board of Directors has decided to name the library in honor of Joe.

Each book will carry a bookplate memorializing Joe. At the present time we have over 65 books in the library. Initially, members will be allowed to check out two books at a time for a one-month period. The books will be available each general
meeting night on the first Thursday of the month. Books checked out will be due the first Thursday of the following month. At this time books will not be available on a competition night.

A list of all the books in the library will be posted on our club web site by the time you read this article. If you have any photographic books that are gathering dust, please consider donating them to the club. A well-stocked library will be a real asset to the membership. Please feel free to contact Andy if you have any questions or want to donate any materials to the library.
